xTool's 01 Omni Printer Promises Versatility with 4-in-1 Printing Capabilities

xTool unveiled its 01 Omni Printer in Berlin, touting it as a revolutionary tool for makers by blending four printing technologies into one device. The company claims this is the "world's first 4-in-1 printer," aimed at those looking to create versatile prints across all available surfaces.

So, what exactly do these four technologies entail? The device integrates UV printing, direct-to-garment (DTG), direct-to-film (DTF), and UV DTF printing capabilities into a single compact ecosystem. The entry price for the single UV edition starts at $1,699, with the Dual UV edition costing $2,699, and the all-inclusive UV and DT Fabric Edition priced at $2,799.

During the launch, CEO Jason Wang highlighted that xTool, established a decade ago as a manufacturer of superior digital tools for creators, is now expanding into new printing technologies. Wang believes that the advances made in laser cutting will translate effectively into this new venture, enhancing the utility for makers.

Last year marked xTool's entry into the printing sector with its laser DTF printer and the M1 Ultra. This latest launch, the 01 Omni Printer, reflects enhancements in both features and overall functionality. The company also rolled out the M2 color craft laser, which complements the Omni Printer.

Both the Omni Printer and the newest laser products integrate the highly regarded xTool Studio software, which simplifies the design process with access to a plethora of templates and ideas from both xTool and its broader maker community. Users also benefit from built-in AI features that assist in generating logos, illustrations, and entire projects efficiently.

During a live demonstration, I observed the 01 Omni Printer executing a job while another xTool machine prepared the cut pieces. The software adeptly managed tasks across multiple Omni devices, showcasing the printer's workflow capabilities.

Why consider a 4-in-1 UV printer?

What sets the 01 Omni Printer apart is its extensive material compatibility, delivering quality prints on substrates such as wood, acrylic, glass, and metal. This printer not only personalizes garments but also generates intricate UV DTF transfers. In practice, it claims the ability to print on practically any conceivable surface.

A unique advantage of UV printing is the capability to create textured finishes; some describe this technique as 2.5D printing due to the depth—up to 5mm—of the reliefs produced. While this level of detail does require a substantial amount of white ink, makers noted that xTool's ink is competitively priced, about one-third that of some competing brands like the EufyMake UV printer. This could greatly entice creators if the pricing remains affordable. Notably, users reported minimal unpleasant odors from the UV inks during the event, a potential plus for in-home use.

Makers at the event displayed their projects, both pre- and post-show, illustrating the capabilities of the printer. I received a beautifully printed cup and a candle showcasing AI-generated floral designs from xTool Studio. Both items were produced using a rotary tool compatible with the scanner capabilities of the 01 Omni Printer.

The printing process for these items takes about 15 minutes, including time for the machine to scan the object's 3D shape. The initial stages involve several white ink layers to ensure a solid base for the final colors. It’s worth mentioning that the printer utilizes a CMYKWV setup, with dedicated tanks for white ink and varnish. The cup I received is claimed to be dishwasher safe, though its durability remains to be seen.

Understandably, many makers were still in the learning phase with the xTool 01 Omni Printer, and there were observable challenges as they adapted to the new device. Some print jobs faced initial setbacks, and there were mentions of issues concerning the print head and materials colliding. Both the user community and xTool acknowledge these early hurdles, suggesting that updates aimed at improving speed and performance are anticipated. Such enhancements will be essential for buyers looking to leverage this hardware for business purposes. Given the considerable investment required for this equipment, it's advisable for prospective buyers to consider third-party reviews before making a decision on the 01 Omni Printer.
